Networking and Project Reflections at the NAD Fellow Retreat in Aarhus

Funding opportunities and pain research

We kicked off the retreat with an event on funding opportunities for junior researchers, organised in collaboration with the Young Neuroscience Network and the Subject-specific PhD Programme in Neuroscience, both based at Aarhus University. The event was attended by local junior scientists and the 2025 NAD fellows. Lise Marie Andersen from AU Health Research Support provided the participants with useful tips on how to navigate in the complex funding landscape, and Assistant Professor Kristian Juul-Madsen shared his experiences of applying for and obtaining grants after completing his PhD studies.

In the afternoon, the NAD fellows attended Aarhus University’s annual Neuroscience Day, an event bringing together the large and thriving local neuroscience community. This year’s theme was ‘Pain and Placebo’, and the programme featured keynote lectures, flash talks and posters.

PhD project reflections

The second day of the retreat was all about reflection and new perspectives. In addition to presenting their experiences from the second lab rotation, the fellows had prepared creative posters about their research journey so far and their thoughts about the upcoming PhD project. Based on the posters, the fellows had a discussion on how to incorporate both basic and clinical research perspectives in their upcoming projects.
